Effective October 15, 2026
YOU PICK helps you and the people you eat with choose a nearby restaurant. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, who it is shared with, and how you can delete it. We wrote it to be read in a few minutes.
When you tap "Use My Location," your phone asks permission to share your GPS location. YOU PICK sends those coordinates to our server, and from there to our restaurant data provider, to find restaurants near you. We don't save your location to your profile or our database. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard request logs, which can include the search coordinates, for a short time for security and troubleshooting. You can also skip GPS and use the app with its built-in restaurant list.
Signing in is optional. It lets you use the same profile on more than one device and join groups with friends. When you sign in, Apple or Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with our sign-in provider. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email," we get a private relay address instead of your real one. We never see or store your Apple or Google password.
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't sell it or rent it to anyone.
| Where | What |
|---|---|
| Your device | Your profile, preferences, people you add, search settings, learning signals, and saved places are kept in your browser's storage. Guests' data stays here only. |
| Your sign-in account (Clerk) | If you sign in: your name, email, profile picture, and a copy of your YOU PICK profile, preferences, learning signals, and saved places, so they sync between devices. |
| Our group database (Neon, through our server on Vercel) | For groups only: group names, invite codes, each member's display name, avatar color, cuisine and dietary preferences, and group votes. |
When you join or create a group, its other members can see your display name, avatar color, cuisine and dietary preferences, and which restaurant you voted for. Anyone with your group's invite link can join, so only share it with people you trust. As the group creator, you can make a new invite code at any time, which stops the old link from working.
We use these companies to run YOU PICK. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job.
| Provider | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Sign-in and account storage | Name, email, profile picture, and your synced YOU PICK profile |
| Apple and Google | "Continue with Apple / Google" sign-in | Your sign-in request |
| Foursquare | Restaurant search, ratings, prices, hours, and photos | The location coordinates and search distance for each search. Restaurant photos load from Foursquare's servers. |
| Vercel | Runs our server | Requests from the app, including search coordinates and group actions |
| Neon | Group database | The group information described above |
| OpenStreetMap | Map images, and backup restaurant search | The map area you're viewing, and your coordinates if the backup search is used |
| Apple Maps or Google Maps | Directions when you tap "Let's Go" or "Directions" | The restaurant's location. These apps follow their own privacy policies. |
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
We keep your account and group information until you delete it or leave the group. Group votes stay with their group, and the app only shows votes from the last 12 hours. If you delete your account, we delete your server data right away. Our providers may keep backups or logs for a short time afterward.
All connections to YOU PICK use encrypted HTTPS. Only signed-in members of a group can see or change that group. YOU PICK doesn't use passwords; sign-in is handled by Apple or Google. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and collect only what the app needs.
YOU PICK is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. A parent can add a child to their group by first name only, which stays in the parent's own account. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
If we change how YOU PICK uses your information, we'll update this page and the effective date above. For important changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
Questions or requests about your privacy: i.picked.yesterday@outlook.com. We aim to reply within 30 days. You can also delete your account and data yourself anytime from Settings in the app.
